Lion FTPD Enable 1.3 - Enable and disable ftpd on OS X 10.7 Lion. (Free)

Lion FTPD Enable 1.3 - Enable and disable ftpd on OS X 10.7 Lion. (Free): "

Lion FTPD Enable is a an Applescript Cocoa application to enable and disable ftpd on OS X 10.7 Lion and later. Beginning with OS X 10.7, Apple removed the GUI to control the ftpd service as it is seen as a security risk. Apple wasn't thinking about users who own scan-to-FTP-capable network printers and scanners. Many users send documents to their Mac by FTP. ftpd-enable is a menubar icon that has a pulldown menu to enable or disable ftpd. You must provide an admin account and password to actually enable or disable ftpd but no password is required to run the app. If ftpd is running, a green unlocked padlock icon appears. If ftpd is disabled a red locked padlock icon appears. A yellow icon means ftpd is running at the moment. It is normal for the icon to stay yellow for up to a minute after ftpd-enable launches. The about dialog is self-dismissing and includes a button for help and a donate button. Tested in OS X 10.7, 10.7.1 through 10.9. Starting with version 1.2, the app uses launchctl to allow ftpd to automatically launch when needed. Donations appreciated!

Version 1.3:

  • Now supports Gatekeeper and can be run in OS X 10.7 or later under the 'App Store and Known Developers' security setting.
  • Reports multiple IP addresses if you have them and rechecks IP address whenever you pick 'about.'

  • OS X 10.7 or later
  • At least one OS X active account that is NOT listed in /private/etc/ftpusers
  • Properly set-up /private/etc/ftpd.conf
  • Must enter admin password to enable/disable ftpd
